A report based on a survey in six countries found that while many people have heard of tools like ChatGPT, few use them regularly. When it comes to journalism, the public is generally uncomfortable with news being made by this technology, especially for serious topics like politics. People believe that using this technology will make news cheaper for publishers to produce but also less trustworthy and less transparent. The public is more comfortable with these tools being used for background tasks, like fixing spelling and grammar, than for writing articles or creating images. Because of these concerns, only 8% of people think news made with this technology is more worth paying for, while 41% think it's worth less. The vast majority also believe that news outlets should clearly label any content that was made using these tools.
